Kaltern Caldaro

The wine village of Kaltern lies 15 kilometres south of Bozen, above Lake Kaltern, the warmest lake in the Alps. Wine-growing around Lake Kaltern is structured on an extremely small scale. Producer co-operatives offer farmers access to the knowledge of experienced cellar masters, and the use of the technical infrastructures necessary for the production of high-quality wines.

Today the Kaltern winery has approximately 440 members who together farm vineyards covering over 300 hectares. Kellerei Kaltern – Caldaro is thus one of the most important quality producers in Italy. The vineyards are almost entirely worked by hand, while the members set themselves strict guide lines for quality assurance, supervised by the cellar master, who is available throughout the year to assist and advise the wine growers in their work.

We are very excited to add these to our portfolio and share them with you!

Caldardo Chardonnay “Wadleith” 2013 – Brilliant straw-yellow color, full of tropical fruit aromas, a hint of oak, and with vanilla and butter rounding off of this expressive nose. Notes of Meyer lemon rind, green apple and fresh almonds blend gracefully with a touch of custard on the lengthy finish. It is full-bodied and balanced on the palate with a long lingering finish echoing ripe fruit.

Caldaro Pinot Biano “Vial” 2013 – A nose of pears and golden apples with undertones of flint and roasted hazelnuts. With a fruit dominated pallet, this wine has perfectly balanced acidity and a bright, lingering finish.

Caldaro Pinot Nero “Saltner” 2012 – A round and velvety first impression leads to a wonderful bright cherry, raspberry, rose hip and fruit-tea overtone with a soft, smooth finish.

Caldaro Gewurztraminer “Campaner” 2012 – Dense, rich volume on the palate, very clean and direct. Apricots dipped in wildflower honey give way to ruby-red grapefruit with a hiny of white pepper. Rose blossoms, lychee, cloves, cinnamon and sage run abundantly throughout this wonderful wine.

Caldaro Passito “Serenade” 2010 375ml – Bright golden-yellow. A rich bouquet of fruit, nutmeg, mandarine oranges and exotic candied fruit. Smooth on the palate, orange peel and mango wtih a crisp, clean finish. Ideal as a dessert on its own or to enjoy with ripe, blue cheeses.
