Location, Location, Location

This week we are excited to feature Locations wines. If you aren’t familiar with these wines, listen up!

Dave Phinney, of Orin Swift wines, envisioned Locations while standing on a curb waiting for a taxi at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris. He noticed the ubiquitous country code stickers on the back of cars there, the proverbial light bulb went off for a new brand. The idea was to make a wine combining the best grape varieties from the great regions of France and apply the sticker as the label. The idea has expanded from France and beyond, with the sole purpose of not being constrained by appellation. They source the best fruit available and create blends in his style and manner.

This week we are featuring:

Locations Corsica100% Vermentino
From the isle of Corsica, arguably one of the most underrated wine regions in the world. The intent was to showcase Vermentino in it’s purest form while remaining true to the Locations concept.
They were able to capture the spirit of Corsica in the bottle and the label, which is a shepard’s knife, is commonly found around the island.

Golden straw in color, the wine boasts fresh and engaging aromas of honeysuckle, lime zest, and orange blossom. Bright and lively upon entry, it leads to a textural mélange of Meyer lemon, almond, pear, and mountain herbs. There is a hint of wet stone that juxtaposes nicely with an ever-present vein of acidity that provides for a clean finish.

Locations Oregon100% Pinot Noir.

Locations wine’s first endeavor in Oregon, of course it’s Pinot Noir. With a climate and soil profile ideally suited to the notoriously fussy varietal, they sought out the best region – The Willamette Valley.

Vivid red with a deep purple core, the nose is generous with ripe cherry, black raspberry, acacia flowers, and hint of forest floor. Immediately, the palate is treated to a textural mélange of sweet cherry, pomegranate, rose petal, and sappy strawberry. A lively mid-palate reveals a mineral twist and exotic spice notes juxtaposed with fine tannins and superb clarity on the finish.

Locations Washington A blend of Syrah, Merlot and Petite Sirah.

Sourced from diverse vineyard blocks within WA state’s best growing regions.

Deep purple in color, the wine brims with aromas of wild blueberries, cassis, and pleasing notes of forest floor. The palate is initially treated to dense flavors of plum, milk chocolate and framboise. Following, a delightful interplay of violet, anise, black tea, and brown spices soon emerge giving further character to the wine. Silky tannins encapsulate things with a very pure and true finish.

Locations CaliforniaA blend of Petite Sirah, Barbera, Tempranillo, Syrah, and Grenache.

Geographic diversity is what Locations – CA is all about. With a goal in mind to create a blend that showcases the best of the Golden State, they navigated the famed appellations of Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, and the Sierra Foothills for prized fruit.

Veiled in dark ruby red, the wine bursts with a tempting perfume of red and black fruits, dried rose petals, and a peppery note which offers some lift. Dense and ripe upon first pass, it evolves into a savory compote of raspberry, kirsch, and bitter cherry balanced out with mineral and herbal notes. The finish is substantial with tangy acidity, yet buffered with polished tannins that please the palate.
